Challenge 1 - an exclusive class preview!

This is the start of something GREAT! Our first-ever challenge here at the new Feeling Scrappy. I feel like a kid in a candy store, absolutely giddy with excitement!

Here is the challenge, should you choose to accept it. (And you really should, because the prize this week is very sweet!) Sketchapalooza 2 is just around the corner, and all of us on the design team are working hard to come up with some fresh, fun sketches to inspire you. For this week’s challenge, we are releasing one of the sketches early to give you a sneak peak at what is in store during the class! And to further sweeten the deal, the lucky winner of this challenge will be able to take the Sketchapalooza class for ABSOLUTELY FREE - a $25 value!

Here is how this challenge (and those to follow) will work. All layout submissions are due by next Wednesday, October 15. Layouts can be submitted by providing a link in the comment section of this post. All layout submissions must be new and created for this challenge. Our prize winner will be randomly drawn from all those who submitted the completed challenge by the deadline. The winner will be announced on Friday, October 17. While we welcome and encourage everyone to participate in every challenge regardless of their geographic location, only US residents will be eligible to win prize packages when mailing is involved. HOWEVER, because this week’s amazing prize is the free class, both stateside and international scrappers are eligible to win! How great it that?!

The other members of the design team and myself have come up with some examples to help get your creative juices flowing. We are so excited to see your pages! Happy creating!

Trick-or-treat! (treat bags)

I am excited that I get to be the first one to share some ideas with you! Our teaching days will focus on little things you can use on layouts or make with your scrappy supplies. There won't always be this many ideas in one day...but I just couldn't pick only one thing to share!

There are so many different ways you can create cute little treat holders. I finally decided on two different holders you can hang from a doorknob and one you can toss into bags on halloween night. The doorknob holders would be fun to surprise your children, neighbors or co-workers. The best part is that you probably already have everything you need to make these in your scrappy stash!

Black Cat Treat Bag

You’ll need:
Black cardstock
Scraps of yellow and pink
Something to trace a circle (like a plate)
Circle punch (2 sizes if you have them…if not, you can still do it with one)
Scissors
Pencil
Adhesive
Black ribbon and a large needle

1. Trace and cut a large circle from a sheet of 12x12 black cardstock.

2. Draw a “peace sign” on the back of the circle to divide it into thirds. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be perfect.

3. Cut along the lines you just drew.

4. Roll the papers into cones and glue together.

5. Punch out two yellow circles for the eyes. Reinsert the circles into the punch to create the cat’s eye shape.

6. Create the black part of the eye the same way.

7. Punch a nose for the cat from the pink cardstock.

8. Poke three holes on each side of the cat’s face for the whiskers.

9. Using the needle, draw the ribbon through the holes to create whiskers.

10. Add a couple of black triangles for the ears and a ribbon to hang it from a doorknob.

11. Don’t forget the candy!!

Halloween Door Hanger

You’ll need:
Cardstock or Patterned paper
Trimmer
Adhesive
Scoring tool (optional)
Extra embellishments as desired
Circle cutter or something round to trace
Scissors

1. Cut a strip of paper 5” x 12.”
2. Cut a rectangle 5” x 7” and score/fold it 1” on three sides as shown.

3. Glue the smaller rectangle to the longer one.

4. Cut a circle out of the top of the longer rectangle to hang on a doorknob.
5. Embellish as desired.

Simple Candy Goodie Bag

You’ll need:
Plastic sandwich bag
Cardstock-black, orange and white
Black pen
Black ink pad
Scissors
Stapler
Adhesive

1. Cut a square of black cardstock the width of your bag.
2. Fold the cardstock in half.
3. Create a ghost template by drawing one in pencil and cutting it out.
4. Trace and cut out your ghost on white cardstock.
5. Ink around the edges of the ghost with black ink.
6. Use die cut letters or stickers to create the “boo.”
7. Fill the bag with candy and staple the folded over black cardstock onto it. Try to plan where you will be gluing your decorations so you can cover up the staples.
8. Glue the ghost and letters to the black cardstock.

I hope you enjoy these ideas! If you make any of them, we'd love to see! Just link us to your creation in the comment section so we can all ooohhh and ahhhh over your work. Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

Design Team

Meet our designers!

Jayne Jones
I am a work-at-home mom who lives near Richmond, Virginia with three teenagers (yikes!) and one spoiled pup! I started scrapbooking over 16 years ago and have never looked back. Scrapbooking is much more than a hobby to me - it has enriched my life in so many ways beyond paper and ink. I am passionate about photography, journaling, design and history and I look forward to sharing that passion with you. I started Feeling Scrappy back in April of 2007 and it has been so much fun working with our designers, planning and most of all spending time with everyone in class – I am truly inspired by these amazing women! Outside of scrapbooking and spending time with my family, I love to cook, read and most of all travel.

Stacey Curry

Hi everyone! I'm Stacey, and I am hopelessly addicted to all things creative! :) I am passionate about creating. I have been at it for so long I can't imagine what life would be like without it. Mom inspired the passion of creativity, she crocheted, did ceramics, and baked, and she was wonderful about including my sisters and I when we were younger. Dad let us create in the garage with his tools and scraps of wood. There wasn't really a right or wrong way - they just let us do what we were inspired to do. So I feel I have always been creatively awake. My very first scrapbook project was in 1992. I made a scrapbook for my boyfriend (now hubby) as a graduation gift. It was a magnetic page album complete with bookmarks with sweet poems and stickers from the Hallmark section at Kmart. Even then with as few supplies as I had access to I was hooked, and have been at it ever since.

I was born and raised in rural Montana, and am very proud of it. I still consider myself a Montana girl. I now live just south of it’s border in Wyoming. I live with my hubby , Steve, our three beautiful children, Macey, Conor and Xander, and our sweet pups Sadie and Gregor. In addition to creating as much as possible just for the fun of it, I also have a creative business, Star Hitched Wagon™, where I create bath and body products from scratch and design one of a kind jewelry pieces. I enjoy running, camping, hiking, fishing, cheering for our local hockey teams in the winter and spending time with my family and the pups!!"

Amanda Bay

I created my first scrapbook at the tender age of 5, carefully using Elmers glue, tape, pictures, magazines, and a trash bag to create a masterpiece. Almost 35 years later, I am still creating scrapbook art one page at a time. I was a happy and successful Creative Memories Sr. Consultant for 8 years before the pull of all things blingy, bumpy, lumpy, textured and more became too great. I am a hybrid scrapper using both traditional and digital techniques. I use many mediums in my scrapbooking and while still loving CM, I use many other brands as well. Digitally I have used SBC for several years and most recently added PSE10 to my skill set. I enjoy learning new techniques and trying new new things while also holding on to the basic tradition of the art we know as scrapbooking. I have been married for 12 years and have two awesome daughters and a dog named Benji. When not scrapbooking I am a stay at home mom, who rarely stays at home! I love to read, write, draw, paint, and well basically try my hand at all things creative. I am very excited for this opportunity and look forward to joining the Feeling Scrappy team of amazing designers.
