Make hair clips using your scrappy supplies!

Abby's hair is always falling over her eyes. I have seen super cute clips in the boutiques for girls but they charge upwards of $4 each around here! So I took matters into my own hands and figured out how to make my own for a fraction of that using my scrappy supplies.

Before you can start, though, you’ll need to pick up some plain hair clips.
I bought these at Sally Beauty Supply for about $4 for the entire box of 100 clips. They have smaller packs, but trust me, once you get going on these, they are addicting and you’ll want to make them to match every outfit and for every holiday!

Supplies needed:
Hair clips
Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
Ribbon
Various flowers, rhinestones and other accessories in your scrappy stash

Directions:
(This may seem like a lot of steps, but once you make one or two, they go super fast!)
1. Measure and cut the ribbon needed to cover the clip. I needed 4.5 inches for each of my clips. (Don’t worry about extra glue hanging out, it’s easy to peel it off of the edges once you are done.

2. Starting on the back of the clip, glue the ribbon just past the part of the clip you pinch to open it. It is easiest to work in small areas on the clip, pressing the ribbon onto it and waiting a couple of seconds before moving on. Be careful not to burn yourself!!! :) (Not that I have ever done that. Cough cough)

3. Now add glue to the inside of the clip on both sides and press your ribbon into the area.

4. Move around to the front of the clip and glue just the area above the opening. Press your ribbon down.

5. Now, you’ll need to work fast here- While pinching the prongs open, add a line of glue on both sides of the top part of the clip. Then press your ribbon down and fold it over the tip of the clip. Press the two layers together to flatten out the glue and seal it well.
(Sorry...this photo is sort of funny looking, I hope you understand what I did here! LOL)

That’s it!!! Now, these are cute as is:

Or you can use your imagination and add lots of fun embellishments. I find the silk flowers hold up the best to little hands pulling and squishing the cute little clips but if you don’t have those, the paper kind work, too (they just get crinkled up faster.)
Here are a couple of finished clips. Tomorrow, I’ll show you all of the clips I made as well as an idea for storing all of your new clips!!!

These are SO cute, it makes me want to make them for my girls....but...ahem....they both have four legs and a lot of really short fur all over them, lol. So they might not appreciate me running after them trying to put clips in their hair!
GREAT Idea! And I LOVE the storage idea in the post above for the clips!! Super Creative you are Stacey! Way To Go!!
